Utopias: Writing for Better Futures

Utopias Writing Workshop.jpg

Writing the future together through imagining utopias

How can fictional visions of alternate or future societies offer hope and drive change? Why do authors and filmmakers – and readers and viewers – turn to the idea of utopia? This interactive workshop will explore how we can use creative writing to imagine better. We’ll study examples of fictional utopias and draw on the themes of the festival to create our own societies of the future through a series of short writing exercises. Everybody welcome from ages 11+ - come prepared to write and try out new ideas; no previous writing experience needed!

Kirsten Harris - workshop leader Kirsten Harris is a senior teaching fellow at the University of Warwick . Kirsten is interested in the relationship between art and radical political and social movements in different time periods..
